Consistency Key To Doggies Charge
Capalaba FC goalkeeper Georgina Worth says her side are determined to start stringing together the wins as they return to National Premier Leagues Women’s action on Sunday.
Coming off a bye in the previous round, the Bulldogs can move to fifth in the NPLW Queensland standings with a win over Eastern Suburbs at John Fredericks Park.
Skie Hanifin’s side come into the clash on the back of mixed results since the restart of the season just over a month ago – with two bigs wins over Moreton Bay United and Mitchelton FC book-ending a frustrating defeat to Souths United.
Drawing on her experience with Brisbane Roar in the W-League and Australian youth teams, Worth says the team knows the importance of getting on a winning run if they are to realise their top two ambitions.
“We’ve been a bit inconsistent over the past month or so we are looking to build more consistency over the next few weeks,” the 23-year-old shot-stopper explained.
“It was good to get the win to bounce back from the loss against Souths but now we have to build momentum and get some consecutive wins on the board.
“Of course, we will take each game as it come but if we want to make top two then pretty much every game from now is a must-win for us.”
Worth debuted for the Bulldogs in their win over the Jets in July and, while impressed by the team’s 16 goal return in their last three matches, is now looking to increasingly frustrate opponents in the defensive third as well.
“Our biggest strength at the moment is our firepower up front. We’ve had two wins where we have scored a lot of goals,” Worth explained.
“But we need to tie that in with a more complete performance and not concede goals. We have been conceding in all our games and that is a bit disappointing.
“We have a quality team and we really shouldn’t be conceding as many as we are. So if we can tidy that up then we will start getting some clean sheets and really start to find our form.”
Worth also said she didn’t think the team would suffer for their recent bye as they now face a tight schedule of three games in the next seven days.
“We’ve had some good training sessions in the last fortnight. The spirits are high and everyone is really motivated. We are confident that we can beat any team in the competition,” Worth concluded.
The Bulldogs have won both previous NPLW meetings against Easts at John Fredericks Park since 2018 and are yet to drop a point at their home ground this season.
