Doggies Itching To Bite Back
Capalaba FC midfielder Sam Langley says his side must draw on their self-belief as they prepare to embark on a busy run of National Premier Leagues fixtures this weekend.
The Bulldogs will play four league matches in the next fortnight as the COVID scheduling crunch begins in earnest – starting with Saturday night’s home clash with Brisbane City.
It marks a critical period for an up-and-down Bulldogs side that have mixed one win and two defeats from their three matches since the season restart in their maiden NPL season.
However, Langley said his side need to have the confidence to assert themselves more on the contest if they are to turn their potential into points in coming weeks.
“We’ve got to be a bit more clinical up the top and be a bit more patient,” the 22-year-old explained.
“We maybe need a bit more creativity and confidence on the ball but we definitely have the players to give Brisbane City a bit of a go if we work as a team.
“I think we really just need to keep the ball a bit more and just be a bit more positive all around the ground really.”
A former NPL QLD title winner with Redlands United, Langley also said he doesn’t feel there will be any hangover from their frustrating 2-1 last-start defeat to Gold Coast United.
“Yes, it was a frustrating game but there were also some positive things there too and I don’t think we deserved to lose the game,” he explained.
“I really think we have come a long way since coming off the back of Covid. We know we will be right if we stick together.”
Langley said the team is also looking forward to returning to their John Fredericks Park home ground.
“It’s always good to get a win at home and that’s what we are aiming for this weekend,” he concluded.
The match marks the first time the Bulldogs and City have met in a league match since 2012, when they both contested the Brisbane Premier League.
The last meeting between the teams was in the FFA Cup Preliminary Rounds in 2018 – won by City 5-2 at John Fredericks Park.
