Round 2 NPL Capalaba v Brisbane Roar - Review

In very humid conditions, Capalaba FC NPL Men started their inaugural campaign in the state's top tier league with a tough away game against Brisbane Roar Youth, ultimately going down 3-0 to the home side.

Brisbane Roar started the game brightly and scored in the 7th minute through Cai Tipoldo. They then went further ahead in the 26th minute, a header from Aaron Reardon finding the back of the net.

The Bulldogs created a couple of chances in the first half through Scot Coulson , however the returning Bulldogs junior only managed to push the ball wide of the post.  Leading into half time the game settled in the midfield with the Roar creating only a couple of half chances. 2-0 to Roar at Half time.

The second half was much better from the away team and this resulted in a period of sustained pressure that saw the Bulldogs hit the crossbar and force Roar goalkeeper , Macklin Freke into some top shelf saves.  Capalaba’s Kurtis Goodwin was not to be upstaged by his opposite number, and was able to keep the score down with a number of top class saves himself, book ending his sides controlled pressure.

In the end a 79th minute goal by Roar's Alex Parsons rounded off the three nil scoreline for the home team and the Roar got their campaign off to a positive start with three points.

Capalaba head coach, David Booth was. philosophical about the outcome.

“I have some work to do over the next week with the lads just reinforcing some of our strengths and weaknesses, as well as ensuring a good recovery with a relatively short turnaround to get us ready for Saturday’s derby at Redlands. It was pleasing to see that we can clearly play at this level, but we just conceded a couple of silly goals. Overall, we had a couple of good spells in the game and created opportunities that we were unlucky not to finish so just a few tweaks to some things we are doing and maybe clarify that we need to be brave on the ball and have confidence in each other when around the final 3rd will see us through”

Capalaba FC's next match is the Redland City derby at Redlands United on Saturday night from 7:00 pm.  Redlands are coming off a heavy loss at home to Lions FC on Tuesday night, going down to the league heavy weights 8-0 .

Form goes out the window when there is derby honours on the line - its time to show that renowned Bulldog spirit and make sure we are there in numbers, making plenty of noise for our side and turning Redlands United grounds blue and gold for the night.

Be Brave - Be Proud - Be a BULLDOG!
