Female Football Week - Spotlight on Stephanie Latham
Stephanie Latham
Steph is our Club Captain and spiritual leader of our NPLW program. She is the player our junior and senior players alike look up to and aspire to be. The junior girls look up to her and dream of having a career as good or better than she has.
A member of the Brisbane Roar W-League grand final winning squad of 2008-09, Steph joined our Club in season 2016 and fast became an integral part of our women’s program.
Steph was playing NPLW for Palm Beach and being a local, asked if she could train with our BWPL team on nights she couldn't attend NPLW trainings. From the very first moment she joined our training session she lifted the quality & intensity of our training sessions. Steph could see what the club was trying to achieve for it's womens program and wanted to be part of the journey.
In her very first year at the club Steph earnt selection in the Brisbane Women’s Premier League Select Team for 2016. Steph then lead our team to the 2017 Brisbane Women’s Premier League Grand Final and again was selected in the BWPL Select Team of the Season.
All of this hard work laid the foundations for our Opens team to progress into the top flight, National Premier League for Women in 2018.
Since the Clubs promotion into the NPLW, Steph has been a consistent contributor to our on-field success and a regular selection in the NPLW Team of the Week across season 2018 and 2019. This is no mean feat.
Steph has also won many awards on presentation night including, Players Player, BWPL Best & Fairest, and every season so far, Midfielder of the Year.
In 2019, Steph picked up the clipboard and joined the coaching ranks to mentor our junior NPLW players and share her wealth of knowledge.
Off the field, Steph is heavily involved in our annual Pink Weekend charity efforts and is also a significant contributor to developing our women and girls football program and bringing through the next generation of female footballers in our Club.
Steph contributes so much behind the scenes that not many people or players see. This includes player recruitment, funding applications, event planning, even down to buying Garlic bread for our fortnightly Pasta nights.
Our women's program would not be where it is without her dedication, hard-work and effort . If there is something happening at the club for the ladies, Steph is involved and the first to put her hand up. She shuns the spotlight for those behind the scene efforts and never wavers from her support of our Club.
Hats off to a champion player and a champion person.
