Goal Machine Edgar Returns For Capalaba
Capalaba FC goal machine Stuart Edgar says he is looking forward to picking up where he left off after rejoining the Bulldogs for the remainder of the National Premier Leagues season.
The 23-year-old attacker returns to the Bulldogs following a COVID disrupted stint with NPL 3 Victoria club Box Hill United.
Despite making just a single competitive appearance with Box Hill before their season shutdown, Edgar proved an impressive debutant after scoring an extra-time match-winner in the Melbourne club’s FFA Cup win over Caroline Springs.
That form augers well for his return to the Bulldogs, where he was the club’s leading league goal scorer in their first two state league seasons – netting a stunning 31 goals in 35 games in the Football Queensland Premier League.
With the Bulldogs earning promotion last year to contest their maiden NPL campaign in 2020, Edgar is now chomping at the bit to help his team mix it with Queensland’s best sides when the season resumes later this month.
“We certainly have a point to prove,” Edgar explained, “There are a lot of so-called bigger name clubs but we have always thrived on being the underdogs and I can’t wait to be part of it again.
“As a team, we are now at the highest level possible now in Queensland and I am keen to see what I can add for the rest of the season.”
Key to putting the hurt on opposing clubs in the attacking third is Edgar’s reunion with fellow sharp-shooter Ryo Ono – a combination that proved near unstoppable over recent seasons.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing with Ryo. He is a very talented player.
“There are plenty of other familiar faces in the team too and I’m sure I will quickly feel at home again, find my rhythm and, hopefully, begin scoring goals.”
Bulldogs Head Coach, David Booth, says Edgar is an important addition to his squad as he seeks to add yet more prongs to his attack, which has already netted seven goals in four games prior to the COVID break.
“Stuey has been a massive player for us in the last couple of years and now he has gained a bit more experience in Melbourne before coming back,” Booth stated.
“He is a presence we need on the field and he is definitely hard to handle for defenders. He will draw plenty of attention and work well within the forward group we have.”
“I predict he will score a few goals for us and create a few as well,” he concluded.
The Bulldogs will resume their NPL season at home to last year’s Grand Finalists Olympic FC this coming Saturday.
